Impact of Fear on the Adrenal Glands and Root Chakra
Today, many people are exposed to fear-inducing news—wars, viruses, or unsettling events in their surroundings. Day in and day out, this constant stream of fear seeps into our lives, creating a cycle that can harm both our emotional and physical well-being.
Fear disconnects us from the Muladhara chakra (root chakra), the foundation of our energy system. When this chakra becomes unbalanced, it disrupts our sense of grounding, which over time can lead to physical and emotional challenges. A disconnection from the root chakra often affects the adrenal glands, located on top of the kidneys, which are directly linked to this energy center. Overstimulated adrenal glands may result in fatigue, dark circles under the eyes, and skin issues, while prolonged imbalance can also manifest in problems with your knees, bones, blood, and overall stability.
Often, people tend to think of fear as something major, like the fear of death, and when I bring up fear, the response I often hear is, “I don’t fear anything; I don’t fear death.” But fear is so much more than these big, obvious things. Fear can lead to a cascade of emotions and behaviors that may not seem related at first glance.
Fear is not only about the news or death. It can manifest in countless ways: fear of relationships, leading to choosing isolation; fear of spiders or high speeds; fear of loud noises or losing control; fear of losing anything you value. Fear is far more complex and pervasive than we often realize. You can read more about this in my blog: Grounding to Overcome Fear.
Even in a world dominated by fear-driven news, it’s possible to maintain your connection to the earth and protect your adrenal health. When you engage with unsettling information, allow the unpleasant energies to flow out of your body and into the ground beneath you. This intentional release helps to ground you, redistributing energies that could otherwise harm your health.
Practicing grounding techniques, like grounding meditation, can strengthen your Muladhara chakra and help shield your adrenal glands from stress. If you’re unsure where to start, I recommend trying my grounding meditation, available here: Grounding Muladhara Chakra
